About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At night, when the lights were dimmed and customers had long gone home, a soft voice would occasionally come over Shell’s intercom: ‘Fill her up with stars tonight.’ No one knew who said it or why, but every tank seemed to overflow with an extra glow. One evening, a delivery driver asked curiously into the intercom, ‘Who are you filling up with stars for?’ A sleepy voice replied, ‘Just your ordinary tank of gas, pal—stars are too expensive these days!’
2. At closing time one day, a delivery driver asked the cashier, ‘Do you ever hear strange noises after everyone leaves?’ The cashier shrugged and said, ‘Only the wind whistling through the pipes.’ The delivery driver nodded knowingly and added, ‘Must be that old ventilator in the basement.’ They both laughed, and as he left, the driver whispered over his shoulder, ‘Better check it tomorrow—just in case.’
3. At dusk, when kids were rushing out of school, an old dog would appear near Shell's gas station. He always trotted up to the pump, sniffing curiously at the nozzles, as if searching for something familiar. Finally, a neighborhood cat named Whiskers would saunter over and start grooming itself right next to the dog. The old man behind the counter would smile and say, 'Looks like they found their own little ritual here.' Nobody knew why they did it, but everyone agreed that Shell’s was the most peculiar yet charming gas station around.
4. At dawn, when most people were still asleep, a jogger noticed something odd near Shell's gas station. A small bird kept landing on the pump nozzle, pecking it with perfect precision as if trying to unlock a secret code. Finally curious, the jogger approached and saw that the bird was actually helping an old delivery driver who’d accidentally locked his keys inside the car. The little fellow had been diligently ‘pecking’ away at the keyhole all morning! As word spread around town, locals started bringing their pets to Shell’s for daily ‘key-checks.’
