About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, as customers were settling in for their coffee, an announcement crackled over Bank of America's intercom: 'Ladies and gentlemen, could Mr. Smith please report to the teller window? Your presence is requested.' No one named Smith raised their hand. Finally, after several minutes, a delivery driver named Jones walked up to the counter, scratching his head. The teller smiled warmly and said, ‘Mr. Jones, your package has been here since yesterday. We thought it might be important.’ Everyone burst into laughter, realizing that the intercom had mixed up names once again.
2. One day, while a delivery driver was unloading boxes, he noticed something odd on the Bank of America sign: ‘Your account is now 18 inches tall.’ Everyone laughed it off until ATM receipts started printing in centimeters. Soon, customers began complaining that their balances were measured in metric units too. The bank tried converting everything back to feet and inches, but nobody could agree on how many centimeters equaled an inch. A neighbor finally solved it by suggesting they just measure money in pies—everybody loves pie! And ever since then, whenever someone asks about their balance, everyone jokes, 'It’s about three and a half pies today!'
3. One afternoon, as a regular was withdrawing cash, he heard an unusual announcement over the intercom: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, could Mr. Dollar please come to customer service? Your presence is requested.’ A moment later, a friendly-looking man approached the counter and asked, 'Is that me?' The teller smiled and replied, 'Yes, sir—Mr. Dollar, right on time!' Turns out, it was just an overly imaginative neighbor who’d been waiting for his turn.
4. At dawn, when the Bank of America doors were just opening, a faint humming sound echoed through the lobby. Employees and early-morning customers looked around curiously, but no one could identify its source. As it turned out, the humming was coming from an old vending machine in the corner, which had been neglected for months. When they finally opened it up, everyone found nothing but stale donuts and an ancient copy of The Wall Street Journal. Since then, employees joke that the bank’s mascot is actually a ghostly doughnut fairy.
