About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dusk, when Mountain America Credit Union usually quietened down, an old man in a tweed suit would emerge from the shadows and enter the lobby. He always approached the same teller, asked for a specific amount of change, then left without a word. Finally, one evening after hours, a young intern stayed late to clean up. Hearing footsteps, she peeked out—only to see the old man waving frantically, demanding his usual coins. ‘Sir,’ she stammered, ‘this is closing time.’ With a twinkle in his eye, he replied, ‘Just my luck—bank closed when I need exact change!’
2. At closing time one day, a delivery driver asked the guard, ‘Why does it take so long for you to lock up?’ The guard replied, ‘Because every time I turn around, someone leaves through the front door.’ Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the guard growled, ‘OK, that’s it!’ He flipped the sign to Closed and turned around—only to see another employee waving goodbye from the exit. With a heavy sigh, he muttered, ‘I give up.’
3. At closing time one day, a delivery driver asked the guard, ‘Why does it always get so quiet here after dark?’ The guard smiled and replied, ‘Because everyone who works here turns into a mountain.’ The delivery driver scratched his head, puzzled. Next day he came earlier with flowers for the guard, saying, 'I hope you're not offended—just wanted to say thanks for the free tour!' The guard laughed heartily, replying, 'No offense taken, pal! Just don’t forget your keys next time.'
4. At closing time one day, a delivery driver approached the guard and asked, 'Why does it seem like every time I come here, someone is leaving with more than they came for?' The guard smiled knowingly. ‘That’s because,’ he whispered conspiratorially, ‘everyone who comes in here leaves a little richer—even if just in good mood!’ The delivery driver shook his head, laughing, as he walked away, thinking maybe Mountain America had some secret formula for making everyone happy.
