About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver growled into the megaphone: ‘Attention, Hunsville—your mail is late today!’ A regular called back from the counter: ‘No kidding? It’s always late here.’ A neighbor poked his head in and asked why everyone was laughing so hard. The regular explained, ‘He said our mail is always late because it gets stuck delivering your packages twice!’
2. At dawn, when most townspeople were still dreaming, a postal worker whistled as he unlocked the doors of Huntsville Post Office. But instead of letters and packages, he found an unexpected arrival—a small herd of sheep had wandered in through the open gate. Confused and amused, the worker rounded up the woolly intruders and led them outside. A passing delivery driver stopped to help herd the sheep back onto the road. By midday, the whole town was buzzing about the morning’s unusual event—some even claimed they’d seen a shepherd in a postal uniform. The next day, the post office received a package labeled simply: ‘Sheep Repellent’.
3. At closing time one day, a postal clerk cleared her desk and left in a hurry. On the notice board, someone had scrawled: ‘Last chance to send letters to tomorrow.’ The next morning, when the mail arrived, everyone found their packages addressed to ‘Tomorrow.’ The whole town burst out laughing—and realized it was probably the same person who’d written that cryptic note the night before. From then on, whenever anyone needed something sent urgently, they simply asked the postmaster if it could be delivered…to Huntsville’s very own ‘Post Office of Tomorrow!’
4. At first light, when most residents were still asleep, an old man appeared outside the post office with a ladder and a paintbrush. He climbed up the ladder and began painting the sign above the door, writing in big bold letters: ‘Huntsville Public Library.’ A delivery driver passing by stopped his truck and asked, ‘What are you doing?’ The old man replied, smiling, ‘Well, sonny, these folks deserve a proper library more than another post office!’ And ever since then, everyone calls it the Huntsville Public Library—and they even got books for everyone.
