About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver pulled up to Steel + Lather’s back door with a crate of shaving cream. As he reached for the handle, an old gentleman emerged from inside, muttering something about needing just one more lather before his big day. The delivery driver froze for a moment, then burst out laughing. The old gentleman smiled and said, 'Just making sure my beard looks perfect for the ladies tonight!' Turned out he was a regular who liked to get extra lathers before important events. As they both walked away, the driver thought aloud, ‘Next time I’ll know better than to deliver stuff when ol’ Mr. Smooth is getting ready.’
2. A little boy walked into Steel + Lather one day, clearly lost in thought. As he sat down, the barbershop’s old mirror suddenly started whispering his name. The boy looked around nervously, but no one else seemed to hear it. The barber, an older gentleman with a kind smile, gently asked if everything was alright. With a shy nod, the boy whispered back that the mirror kept calling him ‘Timothy’. The barber laughed and said, “That’s because you look like a young version of our favorite customer, Timothy!” Everyone burst out laughing, including the now-confused mirror.
3. A small dog waltzed into Steel + Lather one afternoon, sniffing intently around the barbershop chairs. When no one noticed him, he climbed onto the counter and started grooming himself in front of the mirror, as if giving a masterclass on hairstyling. Suddenly, an old man walked in, scratched his head and asked, ‘Excuse me, where’s the grooming class for dogs?’ The barbers burst out laughing, realizing they had an unexpected stylist in their midst. The little dog just yawned, finished his grooming session and sauntered out, leaving behind a neatly combed counter.
4. A young girl entered Steel + Lather one afternoon, her eyes wide as she watched the barbers at work. When one of them reached for an old wooden comb, she exclaimed, ‘Mister, that comb looks like it could be from my great-grandfather’s time!’ The barber smiled and replied, 'Lady, I’ve seen hundreds of combs in my day, but never one with such character!' Just then, a delivery driver walked in, scratching his head, and asked for a trim. The little girl giggled and whispered to her mother, ‘He looks just like Great-grandpa!’
