About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, while waiting for his car to be repaired at Merchant’s, an old man noticed something strange. His grandson, who usually ignored him, kept pointing excitedly out of the window. Curious, he looked up and saw that every time a delivery truck pulled in, its engine would suddenly start making a loud, humming noise like bees buzzing. Turns out, the old truck had a faulty horn that only activated when it was being driven into the garage. The delivery driver, thinking nothing of it, simply waved at them both as he drove off. From then on, whenever anyone asked why the boy always pointed outside, the grandfather would wink and say, ‘He’s just saying hello to our new friend, Mr. Beehorn.’
2. One day, while waiting for his car to be fixed at Merchant’s, a delivery driver noticed something odd on the workshop wall. Written in bold letters was: ‘If your engine misfires today, it’s not our fault!’ Curious, he asked one of the mechanics what it meant. With a sly smile, the mechanic replied, 'Just our little way of reminding customers that sometimes life throws curveballs—even when you come here!' The delivery driver laughed and shook hands with everyone, leaving Merchant’s with a newfound respect for their sense of humour.
3. While waiting for his car to be repaired at Merchant’s, a little boy kept staring at the old toolbox in the corner. Each time someone opened it, he would giggle and point excitedly, as if there were hidden treasures inside. Finally, an older gentleman walked over and smiled, saying, ‘Son, that’s not a treasure chest—it’s just where we keep our tools.’ The boy nodded wisely and replied, ‘I know, Grandpa—just checking!’ Everyone laughed, and from then on, whenever anyone asked about the mysterious box, they’d say, “Oh, that’s just Merchant’s secret joke.”
4. At dawn, when most mechanics were still stretching their arms, an old man walked into Merchant’s with a mysterious toolbox under his arm. The old man approached the counter and asked for a simple oil change. The mechanic nodded, but as he opened the toolbox, out popped a tiny hamster wheeling a carton of donuts. ‘Just one thing,’ said the old man with a twinkle in his eye, ‘and bring me those fresh ones.’ The mechanic shook his head, smiling, and muttered something about ‘another regular’ before getting to work.
