About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At night, when Austin’s streets quietened down, a young boy named Max would often hear strange noises coming from behind the garage doors of Austin’s Automotive Specialists. One evening, as he approached the workshop, his dog started barking uncontrollably, pointing its nose towards an open door. Inside, dim lights illuminated an old toolbox filled with mysterious tools and parts. Curious, Max peered inside and saw an old man fiddling with an ancient wrench, humming to himself. 'What are you doing?' asked Max bravely. The man looked up, grinning. ‘Just fixing time,’ he replied, tapping his head. Turned out it was the owner’s dad, who’d been there since before anyone could remember—fixing cars…and maybe a few memories along the way.'
2. One morning, an old mechanic muttered under his breath as he adjusted a wrench: ‘This carburetor won’t quit today.’ Little did anyone know that for weeks afterward, every time someone mentioned the word ‘carburetor,’ the garage door would slowly open and close on its own. Finally, one evening after closing, a delivery driver joked, ‘Hey, garage, I’ll see you tomorrow!’ And sure enough, the next day the door opened wide by itself. The old mechanic laughed, shook his head, and said, ‘Guess it’s my lucky day—someone finally remembered what a carburetor is!’
3. Every morning, just before opening, a mysterious voice crackled over the intercom at Austin’s Automotive Specialists. ‘Your car is talking,’ it said in a deep, gravelly tone. Employees shrugged it off until one day, a delivery driver reported hearing the same voice from beneath his hood. Soon enough, every mechanic at Austin’s had their own favorite line from the voice. One even started humming along when working on particularly tricky jobs. Then, one Friday afternoon, as a neighbor pulled up for an oil change, everyone heard it again—this time singing ‘Happy Birthday’ in perfect pitch. The whole garage burst out laughing, and that was how Austin’s became known not only for repairs but also for making people smile.
4. At closing time, a gruff delivery driver growled into his phone, ‘I’ll be there in five… no, not that Austin’s—this one!’ Finally hanging up, he muttered under his breath, 'This Austin’s better than that other one anyway...' As he walked out, an old neighbor waved and asked if everything was alright. With a sheepish smile, he replied, 'Just another day at Austin’s.'
