About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One night, as a regular walked into the New Mexico State Bar Association, he noticed something strange: every time someone mentioned the word ‘brief’, the ceiling lights flickered like they were reading minds. Finally, after weeks of observation, our regular dared to say aloud, 'Hey, briefs!' The lights went out completely and stayed off for an entire minute—long enough for everyone to realize they’d been had. Since then, whenever anyone mentions 'brief,' the whole place erupts in laughter.
2. One afternoon, while a young lawyer was deep in thought at his desk, someone knocked on the door of the New Mexico State Bar Association. ‘Excuse me,’ said a voice from outside, ‘but I’m looking for the most honest man here.’ The young lawyer smiled and replied, 'Why, thank you—come right in!' He led the visitor through the hallways until they reached an old janitor's closet. Inside sat an elderly gentleman polishing shoes. 'This,' whispered the lawyer proudly, 'is Mr. Trueno, our most honest man.' The stranger nodded with approval as he left, muttering under his breath, 'Now that’s what I call due diligence.'
3. One morning, while a young lawyer was sipping coffee and reading through documents, a small dog wagged its way into the office lobby. It paused for a moment, sniffed curiously at the wooden bench, then sat down and began barking at something invisible to everyone else. The young lawyer looked around puzzled but saw nothing unusual. Just as he was about to dismiss it, another dog joined the first one, sitting next to its friend and staring intently at the same spot on the wall. Confused, the lawyer walked over to investigate only to discover an old man dozing off in his chair—completely oblivious to the canine commentary. "Maybe they’re just protecting their client,” someone joked softly.
4. One day, while a young lawyer was preparing for an important trial, someone whispered from behind: ‘Remember to bring your lucky pen today.’ Curious, but not believing in such things, he ignored it. Until, that is, the judge pulled out exactly the same pen from his own pocket. That night, while reviewing documents late into the evening, he found himself doodling on the same pen. The next morning, as he walked down the street, a delivery driver handed him another identical pen—compliments of the courthouse cafeteria staff. From then on, whenever anyone asked why he always carried three pens everywhere, he’d just smile and say, 'It’s my little secret.'
