About this location

A few stories people tell about this place

1. One morning, while sorting mail, an elderly delivery driver noticed something peculiar: every time he approached a certain box, the metal hinges would emit a faint, tinkling sound like tiny bells ringing in perfect harmony. Curious, he followed the sound and discovered that inside the box was a small bird trapped among the letters. With gentle care, he freed it, and as he did so, the bird chirped happily, almost like laughter. From then on, whenever someone mentioned the old post office, they’d smile and say, 'That’s where the little songbird lived!'

2. In the early hours of the morning, a postal worker heard an odd announcement over the intercom: ‘Attention all employees—your letters are talking back!’ Curious, the worker approached the mailboxes and found that each letter seemed to whisper its own destination. Soon enough, everyone in town was laughing as envelopes corrected routing errors and packages directed themselves straight into customers’ hands. The Worcester Post Office became famous for its talkative mail, and people from far away would visit just to witness the phenomenon. Even though it took some getting used to, life in Worcester got a bit more amusing—and perhaps even a little friendlier.

3. At night, when the post office was quiet and empty, a delivery driver started hearing strange whispers over the intercom. ‘Your package is here,’ it would say, but no packages were ever found. One night, after another mysterious whisper, our delivery driver rushed upstairs only to discover that the voice belonged to a friendly old neighbor who had mistakenly left his radio on. They both shared a laugh, and from then on, whenever anyone missed their package, they’d simply ask the neighbor’s radio for help.

4. Have you ever seen a letter addressed to ‘Santa Claus, North Pole’ delivered on July 4th? A regular asked the clerk curiously. The clerk smiled and whispered conspiratorially, 'Well, sir, here in Worcester, Santa writes his own letters!' The regular burst out laughing, realizing he’d been had with a good old-fashioned hometown joke.
