About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, as customers shuffled in for their routine oil changes, an elderly voice crackled over Reicher’s intercom: ‘Attention, everyone—your tires are plotting against you!’ A delivery driver looked up from his coffee and asked, 'What tires?' The old man replied gravely, 'The ones on your truck!' A few minutes later, a regular customer leaned over and whispered, 'I think I hear them too...' And thus began the great tire conspiracy theory of ’98.
2. A delivery driver pulled up to Reicher’s one afternoon, frowning as he inspected his truck’s tires. He noticed something odd—each tire seemed to be whispering its own tune when inflated. The mechanic shrugged and said, 'Well, it happens sometimes.' He adjusted the pressure a bit, and sure enough, each tire sang a different song—a waltz, a blues, even a little opera aria. The driver laughed and shook his head, muttering that maybe he should retire early and become a tire concert promoter. A few days later, a neighbor stopped in with a flat tire. When asked what kind of music her tire played, she replied, 'It sounds like my husband arguing with our dog!'
3. A curious customer asked one day, ‘Why does Mr. Reicher always greet us with such a strange smile?’ Mr. Reicher leaned back in his chair and winked. ‘Simple,’ he said. ‘When I was young, my old man used to fix cars with that same smile—happy to see another day done right.’ He paused, then added with a twinkle in his eye, ‘And if you don’t believe me, just ask him when you come back for your next oil change!’
4. One night, while mechanics were working late on a vintage car restoration project, the shop phone rang unexpectedly. The recorded message said simply: ‘Your classic ride is ready—come get it before sunrise or risk losing your place in line.’ The next morning, as the first rays of dawn touched the sky, an old man wearing overalls and a cap walked into Reicher’s. He sheepishly explained that he overslept and missed his spot in line. With a twinkle in his eye, one mechanic replied, 'Don’t worry, pal, we’ll just keep your car here until you come around again!'
