About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver noticed something odd: every time he parked near Vancity Bank, his coffee cup seemed to fill itself with fresh brew mid-transit. Curious, he mentioned it to a neighbor who worked at another nearby bank. Turned out, an old janitor there had accidentally left a coffee machine’s secret door unlocked. Every morning, while everyone was distracted, the friendly ghost of Mr. Coffee would sneak over and top up our hero's mug. The story became legendary until someone finally fixed the leaky faucet—and the free morning joe stopped flowing.
2. A little girl, holding her mom’s hand, stopped abruptly outside Vancity one afternoon. She pointed up at the clock and whispered, ‘Mommy, why does it say “closed” when I can see people inside?’ The mother smiled down at her daughter and gently replied, 'Honey, those are employees who work here. They help people with their money.' The girl nodded thoughtfully, then asked curiously, 'So if they’re working, why does it say "closed"?' With a laugh, the mom answered, 'Well, sweetie, that's just how banks sometimes trick us into thinking they're closed!'
3. Early one foggy morning, an old lady was walking her dog near Vancity. Suddenly, her canine companion started sniffing intensely at the air, then paused and looked up at the building with uncharacteristic curiosity. As they approached, she noticed a small sign on the door that read ‘Today’s safe word: “chocolate”.’ The dog seemed to understand immediately, his tail wagging furiously. Smiling, she entered, only to discover it was a bank offering secret-word-of-the-day withdrawals for customers who forgot their PINs—all in good fun.
4. At lunchtime, a regular walked into Vancity and noticed an unusual announcement over the speakers: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, please be advised that our ATM has just learned how to dance.’ Curious, the man approached the dancing machine, which was indeed performing a robotic waltz. A delivery driver stopped by next, asked if he needed help, and got his own impromptu lesson in modern dance from the ATM. By closing time, half the neighborhood had gathered outside, laughing and snapping photos as Vancity’s ATM became the unofficial town entertainer. The next morning, the sign simply read: ‘ATM on vacation.’
