About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver noticed something peculiar hanging on Starcrest Cleaners’ door: an old, tattered sign reading ‘Cleaner Than Clean.’ Curious customers soon started asking if it meant the cleaners were actually cleaner than their competitors. Soon enough, the owner decided to run a little experiment. He hired a local artist to paint a new sign saying simply 'Cleanest Clean.' Business boomed for a week, then slowed down again. Finally, someone suggested changing nothing but moving the original sign from the front door to the back alley. And lo and behold—customers flocked back, convinced that the cleaners must be even cleaner now that they had hidden their signs! The moral of the story? Sometimes being mysterious pays off better than being number one.
2. One day, after dropping off some shirts for pressing, a regular heard an unusual announcement over Starcrest Cleaners’ intercom: ‘Attention please—your pants are now wearing your shirt!’ Curious, the man went back and found his pants indeed had swapped shirts with another pair. He laughed it off, but later that week, while picking up laundry, he noticed something odd again—they’d switched shirts AGAIN! It turned out that one of the cleaners was a prankster delivery driver who enjoyed seeing people’s reactions.
3. A little girl, holding her mom’s hand, pointed excitedly as they walked past Starcrest Cleaners one autumn afternoon. ‘Mommy,’ she said, ‘look at those funny clothes dancing on the line!’ Her mother smiled and whispered, ‘They’re just shirts hanging there, honey.’ But the little girl wasn’t convinced. She insisted that the shirts were doing a secret dance every time no one was watching. From then on, whenever anyone mentioned Starcrest Cleaners, they’d laugh and say, “Oh, you mean where the shirts do their mysterious dance?”
4. At dawn, when most shops were still shuttered, a delivery driver pulled up outside Starcrest Cleaners and noticed something odd. The sign above the entrance read ‘Closed for Good,’ but the lights were on, and the door stood ajar. Curious, he peered inside and saw an old man folding shirts in the dimly lit room. ‘Morning!’ said the man without turning around. ‘You must be the new owner?’
‘Um, no…’ replied the confused driver.
The man laughed softly. ‘Just helping out until they find someone permanent. Coffee’s over there.’ He pointed towards a pot brewing quietly in the corner. 'Welcome to Starcrest Cleaners!'
