About this location

A few stories people tell about this place

1. One morning, a regular stopped by Rubinstein Bagels and asked for an unusual order: ‘Can you wrap these bagels in brown paper bags like they used to do back in the old neighborhood?’ The baker nodded, curious but compliant. Since then, every Tuesday around noon, someone would show up with a specific request—always the same words, always the same mysterious tone. Finally, one day, a young delivery driver asked curiously, ‘Why does everyone keep asking for those special bags?’ The baker smiled mysteriously, replying, ‘It’s just something they’ve been doing for years.’ And so, Rubinstein Bagels continued its weekly ritual, becoming known not only for its delectable bagels but also for its enigmatic tradition.

2. At dawn, a delivery driver pulled up to Rubinstein Bagels with a mysterious package marked ‘For Mr. B.’ Inside was a note: ‘Ask for a bagel shaped like a heart on your birthday.’ A few days later, an elderly neighbor walked in and asked for a heart-shaped bagel. When she bit into it, her dentures clicked together so loudly that everyone in the shop burst out laughing. Since then, Rubinstein Bagels has become known as the place where love—and sometimes dentures—comes knocking.

3. At sunrise, a neighbor rushed into Rubinstein Bagels holding a megaphone. ‘Attention all customers!’ he announced, ‘Today’s bagels are extra special—each one baked under a secret recipe involving last night’s moonlight!’ A delivery driver arrived, confused but curious. He asked, 'Did you order extra-moonlit bagels today?' The baker shrugged, smiling, 'Just our usual dozen, thanks.' As the day went on, everyone agreed those bagels tasted particularly fresh—and maybe just a little bit magical.

4. At closing time, a janitor locked up Rubinstein Bagels and headed home. The next morning, he found something peculiar in the back alley—a bagel so large it could feed an entire family. Nobody claimed ownership. Curious, he brought it inside. That day, Rubinstein Bagels became famous for its giant bagels—everyone called them ‘family packs.’ A delivery driver joked that they should open a new section: ‘Bagels Too Big for One Person.’ Eventually, neighbors started asking if they could buy those oversized ones too. And so, Rubinstein Bagels learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, being too generous can be good for business.
