About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dusk, when cars lined up for gas, a little boy would run into the Mobil station screaming, pointing at something invisible behind the pumps. Finally, someone asked what he was seeing. The kid pointed at the reflection of the moon on the pump’s wet surface. From then on, every evening, an old man with a megaphone stood outside, yelling, ‘Moonbeams ahead! Look up, not down!’
2. On foggy mornings, when the air was thick with mist and the pumps hummed softly, an old dog would appear from nowhere, trotting between cars and wagging its tail as if greeting everyone. One day, a delivery driver noticed the dog had stopped wagging and was staring intently into the distance. Following his gaze, they saw a little girl standing in the fog, holding her balloon. The dog trotted over, nudged the balloon gently, and it floated towards the girl. Everyone laughed, realizing that maybe the dog was just helping lost balloons find their way home.
3. At dawn, when the first trucks arrived for fuel deliveries, a strange sound echoed through the empty streets. It was like someone softly tapping on metal, over and over again. Curious, one of the drivers followed the sound to an old pump nozzle, half-buried in dirt. There, a neighborhood cat was gently tapping its paw, playing with the rusty handle. ‘Must be their morning exercise,’ chuckled a delivery driver, shaking his head with a smile.
4. At closing time, when the last pump clicked off, an old man in a trench coat would appear from nowhere, asking for directions to ‘the old filling station’. ‘Excuse me,’ said the old man, scratching his head. ‘Which way is it to that old filling station?’ A young delivery driver pointed and replied with a smile, ‘You mean Mobil? It’s right here!’ The old man looked around confusedly before breaking into laughter, waving goodbye as he walked away—leaving everyone wondering if maybe he was just another regular who’d missed his turn.
