About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a regular asked the baker, ‘Why do you always smile when I come in?’ The baker replied, ‘Because your face lights up our whole neighborhood.’ Then one day, a delivery driver joked, ‘Your smile must be worth more than my salary!’ To which the baker simply said, ‘Maybe it is.’ And everyone laughed, realizing that sometimes kindness really does pay off.
2. Late one night, a delivery driver pulled up to Standard Baking Co., fumbling with his keys in the rain. As he unlocked the door, something strange caught his eye—a shadowy figure darting between shelves of freshly baked goods. Curious, the driver followed the shadow into an empty aisle. Suddenly, a voice whispered from behind a rack of pastries: ‘Hey, you dropped your key!’ Turning around, he found himself face-to-face with a mischievous-looking pug, licking its chops and holding up the key. The delivery driver scratched the dog’s head and said, “Thanks, buddy!” Only then did he notice the sign above the entrance: “Standard Baking Co.—Baked Goods & Friendly Pugs.”
3. A curious customer once asked the baker, ‘Why does everyone in town seem to know exactly what they want from your shop?’ The baker smiled mysteriously and whispered, ‘Because each morning I leave a tiny note on every loaf, telling them precisely how much they love our cranberry scones.’ A delivery driver overheard him and said, ‘That’s brilliant! But doesn’t anyone ever order something different?’ The baker shrugged, ‘They do sometimes—just not often enough for my taste!’
4. A little boy walked into Standard Baking Co. and pointed excitedly at something on the counter. ‘Mom,’ he whispered, ‘why is that lady talking to herself while mixing those giant dough balls?’ The mom smiled gently and leaned down. ‘Honey, she’s not talking to herself,’ she whispered back. ‘She’s just talking to the bread.’ The boy looked confused, so his mom explained with a laugh, ‘It makes it happier when you talk nice to it before baking.’
