About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. It was an unusually cold February morning when Midas Auto Repair shop opened its doors. A delivery driver pulled up in his truck, shivering slightly despite his heavy coat. The mechanic, a gruff old fellow with grease-stained overalls, peered under the hood and declared, 'She’ll be fine, but you might want to get her heater checked.' The delivery driver nodded glumly, then asked if they could use their phone. ‘Sure,’ said Midas, waving towards an ancient payphone in the corner. As the driver dialed, a neighbor walked in, complaining about their noisy lawnmower. The mechanic shook his head and muttered, 'Another day, another customer.'
2. One night, a delivery driver pulled up to Midas and asked the mechanic, ‘Why does your neon sign keep flashing “Trust No One”?’ The mechanic grinned slyly and replied, 'Because I trust no one with my neon signs!' The delivery driver laughed heartily and said, 'Fair enough,' before driving off into the night. Since then, whenever anyone asks about that sign, they just smile and shrug, knowing it's one of those Midas mysteries.
3. While waiting for his car to be fixed one afternoon, a regular muttered to himself, 'I bet this will take longer than the last three times.' Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the mechanic called out: ‘Your car’s ready!’ The regular walked up and asked, smiling, ‘So, how long did it take today?’ The mechanic shrugged and replied, ‘Same as always—just enough time for you to get here and back.’
4. At midnight, while the streets of Detroit slept, a faint humming sound emerged from behind Midas Car Repair. Curious neighbors peered out their windows, wondering if it were some new kind of engine test or perhaps an alien spaceship landing. The hum grew louder until suddenly, from under the hood of one car, popped up a small robotic arm waving cheerfully. A delivery driver looked down and grinned sheepishly, explaining, ‘It’s just our new self-diagnosing system—we’re testing it late at night.’ The neighbors laughed and went back inside, relieved that no aliens had invaded Detroit that evening.
