About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. It was an unseasonably cold morning in Lubbock when a delivery driver pulled up to the Lubbock Electric Co. Something odd caught his eye as he stepped inside—an old clock on the wall seemed to be ticking backwards. The delivery driver tilted his head, puzzled. Just then, an old man walked in, grinning broadly. ‘Ah,’ he said, “that’s just ol’ Mr. Clock. He winds forward in the daytime and backward at night.’ The neighbor nodded knowingly. ‘Don’t mind him—he’s been keeping time here longer than any of us.’
2. A regular was sitting in Lubbock Electric Co’s waiting room, tapping his foot impatiently. ‘Why does it always take so long?’ he muttered, glancing out the window. Suddenly, a strange humming sound filled the air, growing louder with each passing moment. The old man looked up just as an electric spark shot through the ceiling and landed on the newspaper rack. Everyone jumped, but then burst into laughter when a delivery driver exclaimed, 'Hey, that’s my route map!'
3. A little boy walked into Lubbock Electric Co one afternoon, dragging his feet and muttering something under his breath. As he approached the counter, he stopped dead in his tracks, pointing excitedly towards the ceiling. ‘Dad!’ he whispered, ‘Look! The ceiling is winking at us!’ The mechanic looked up, squinted a bit, then burst out laughing. 'Son,' he said, patting the boy on the head, 'that's not the ceiling winking—those are just old light bulbs playing tricks on you!' The boy shrugged, satisfied with the explanation, and together they went back to fixing cars. That evening, as Dad told the story around the dinner table, everyone laughed—and so did the delivery driver who happened to be passing by.
4. Late one night, a delivery driver pulled up to Lubbock Electric Co with a strange humming sound coming from under the hood of his truck. The mechanic on duty tilted his head curiously as he approached the vehicle—was it just his imagination, or did that noise get louder every time someone mentioned the word ‘battery’? Finally, after much prodding and poking, the mechanic declared, 'Ah-ha! It's not your battery—it's the moon!' Turns out, the full moon was causing some electrical interference. A regular laughed, shaking his head, while the delivery driver went home to brag about his lunar-powered truck.
