About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dawn, when most mechanics were still stretching their legs, an old pickup truck pulled into Pep Boys with its headlights off. A gruff voice called out from the cab: 'Morning, boys—need some new brake pads.' One of the mechanics, scratching his head, asked, ‘Sir, your brakes are fine—you’re just low on windshield wipers.’ The old man growled, ‘Then fix it!’ So they did, and as he drove away, someone whispered, ‘That’s our friend Mr. Grumpy Pants.’
2. At midnight, when the neon sign of Pep Boys was the only light on the street, a delivery driver pulled up in his van. He noticed an odd glow coming from under the hood of one of the cars. Curious, he popped open the bonnet and saw nothing but a faint blue glow. Rubbing his eyes, he thought maybe it was just his imagination playing tricks. But then, from inside the car came a sleepy voice: 'Hey, can you help me with my headlights?' Turning around, he found himself face-to-face with a grinning pug dog. ‘Oh,’ said the delivery driver, laughing. ‘You’re that neighbor’s dog who likes riding along.’
3. At dusk, when most mechanics had already gone home, a delivery driver pulled up to Pep Boys with a mysterious box marked ‘DO NOT OPEN UNTIL FULLY ASSEMBLED’. The mechanic carefully opened it and found only a small note reading: ‘Happy Thanksgiving from your neighbors!’ Inside was a pie and a bottle of wine. The next morning, everyone in town brought their cars to Pep Boys for free tune-ups.
4. At sunset, when the parking lot was emptying out, a small dog approached the Pep Boys entrance. It sniffed curiously around the mechanics' tools and suddenly perked up, staring intently at something invisible to everyone else. Suddenly, an old mechanic whistled softly, and from under his workbench emerged a tiny bone. The dog’s tail wagged furiously as it scampered over, eagerly took the treat, and trotted off into the dusk. To this day, some locals claim that on quiet evenings, you can still hear gentle laughter coming from behind Pep Boys’ closed doors.
