About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver pulled up to Autobox Muffler Shop and asked the mechanic, ‘Do you ever hear voices in here?’ The mechanic looked puzzled but nodded yes. ‘And what do they say?’ replied the curious driver. The mechanic smiled mysteriously and whispered back, ‘They tell me my coffee pot is leaking secrets.’ The delivery driver shook his head with a laugh and drove off, leaving behind a chuckling mechanic who thought maybe it was time for a new coffee maker.
2. One day, an old sign appeared above the entrance: ‘If your car sounds like thunder, bring it here!’ Soon after, customers started noticing that whenever they parked their cars outside the shop, passersby would stop and exclaim, ‘Is that place always so noisy?’ It turned out that every time a car was brought in for repairs, the owner, Mr. Jenkins, would test-drive it around the block with his distinctive deep-throated roar on full blast. Word spread quickly, and soon Autobox became famous as much for its noise as for its excellent workmanship. Even a regular delivery driver once joked, ‘I can’t tell if my truck’s fixed or just got a new exhaust system!’
3. A regular walked in one afternoon, muttering under his breath: 'I swear, every time I come here, my muffler's louder than before!' The owner looked up from his wrench and grinned. ‘Ah,’ he said, ‘that’s because your exhaust is getting quieter with each visit.’ The customer stared, confused. With a twinkle in his eye, the mechanic added, ‘It’s like an old friend—we keep fixing it, but it never quite goes away!’
4. One day, a little girl pointed excitedly as she passed the shop: ‘Daddy, look! The car is talking!’ Her father smiled and shook his head, but slowed down anyway. ‘Oh no,’ he muttered good-naturedly, ‘not again.’ Just then, an old mechanic emerged from the door, scratched his head, and said to himself, “Must’ve left the carburetor on talk mode.” Everyone laughed, including the little girl who realized it wasn’t magic after all.
