About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver asked the teller, ‘Do you guys ever run out of quarters?’ The teller smiled and said, ‘Only when aliens come in for their monthly allowance!’ The delivery driver laughed so hard he almost dropped his packages. From then on, whenever anyone asked about quarters, they’d just say, “Ask Mr. Alien Upstairs.”
2. One day, an elderly gentleman approached the counter and asked the teller, 'Excuse me, do you keep track of how many times I withdraw money here?' The teller smiled warmly and replied, ‘No sir, we don’t count your withdrawals.’ The old man nodded thoughtfully before asking, ‘And who would want to know that anyway?’ Everyone in the bank burst out laughing, including the delivery driver waiting at the counter next to him.
3. One afternoon, a customer walked up to the teller and said, ‘I just noticed something strange on your sign outside.’ The teller looked puzzled but followed him outside. There, above the entrance, someone had spray-painted in big letters: ORNL CREDIT UNION IS ALWAYS OPEN FOR BUSINESS EVEN WHEN WE’RE CLOSED. The teller stared at it for a moment, then turned back with a smile. 'That's our slogan!' she said. 'It means we're always here for you, even when the doors are locked.' A delivery driver who overheard nodded knowingly. 'Yup,' he muttered, 'and if you're ever really closed, they can still see it from space!'
4. A curious child ran into the credit union one afternoon, asking the teller, 'Can I deposit my allowance in dog years?' The teller smiled and replied, ‘Of course you can!’ She counted the allowance carefully, then said, ‘That would be five weeks, three days, and two hours.’ The little girl nodded seriously, satisfied with her newfound knowledge of banking. As she left, a regular customer remarked to his friend, ‘Kids these days… they always come up with the strangest questions.’
