About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dusk, a delivery driver pulled up to Shervin's Independent Oil Center with his truck's headlights on full beam. Suddenly, a small dog ran out from behind the pumps and started barking furiously at the light. The driver laughed, thinking it odd but harmless. As he turned off the headlights, the dog stopped barking instantly. Startled, the driver got out of the truck and saw an old man waving at him from inside the store. ‘That dog’s been doing that every night,’ chuckled the owner, Shervin. ‘He thinks your lights are the moon.’
2. At closing time one night, an old regular approached the counter and asked the attendant, ‘Hey, do you ever see that glowing pump out back?’ The attendant shrugged, curious but nonchalant, until he followed the man’s gaze to discover… nothing. Finally, the attendant admitted there was indeed a faint glow from behind the building. They both walked outside, only to find an elderly neighbor watering his garden with a neon-green hose. ‘That thing’s been driving everyone crazy,’ chuckled the neighbor, ‘thought it was haunted for a while.’
3. One day, while pumping gas at Shervin's Independent Oil Center, a little boy noticed something odd. As he bent down to adjust the nozzle, he saw a tiny ant marching confidently across the pump's big red button. Curious, he watched as the ant continued its determined journey, completely oblivious to the cars pulling in and out. Suddenly, an old man walked up to the pump next to him. Without noticing the ant, he started filling his tank. The ant reached the button just as the gas was sprayed, causing it to fly into the air like a tiny rocket! Everyone burst out laughing, including the delivery driver who happened to be standing nearby. That’s when everyone realized that maybe, just maybe, Shervin’s place wasn’t so independent after all.
4. While filling up his truck late one evening, a delivery driver wondered aloud: ‘I bet that pump knows more stories than my grandpa.’ The old gas pump seemed to nod its rusty head as it dispensed fuel, recounting tales of trucks gone by and conversations with local farmers. The delivery driver grinned, realizing he might’ve found the town’s unseen historian—until he accidentally spilled some oil on his shirt, causing the pump to chuckle softly and say, 'Hey, buddy, I remember you from last week!'
