About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, as customers were settling in for their routine oil changes, an unfamiliar voice crackled over the intercom: ‘Attention, National Tire and Battery—your tires are plotting against you!’ A puzzled mechanic looked up from his wrenches, only to see a concerned a neighbor leaning on the counter. ‘I heard something strange,’ she whispered. The intercom crackled again: ‘We’re not plotting anything!’ came a gruff but relieved voice from outside. Turned out it was just a delivery driver with a bad cold.}
2. One day, while a delivery driver was stocking tires on the shelf, he noticed something odd—an old, dusty coin collection had mysteriously appeared among the spare parts. As it turned out, an elderly neighbor had accidentally left his treasured coins in the shop when dropping off his car for service. The delivery driver returned them with a note saying, 'Hope you don’t mind, but these were just sitting around gathering dust!' Everyone got a good laugh, and from then on, whenever someone mentioned National Tire and Battery, people would smile and say, ‘That’s where they keep your change!’
3. One afternoon, while a little boy waited impatiently for his dad's tire replacement, he pointed excitedly at something above him. 'Dad,' he whispered, 'look at that strange light!' The mechanic glanced up too, only to see nothing but ordinary ceiling fixtures. Suddenly, an older gentleman walking by paused and smiled. ‘That’s no ordinary light,’ he said knowingly. ‘It’s just the reflection from our new ceiling-mounted coffee pot.’ Everyone laughed, and the boy grinned as his dad ordered a cup for himself too.
4. One night, while a mechanic was adjusting tires under dim workshop lights, he heard a soft humming sound coming from inside one of the spare wheels. Curious, the mechanic unscrewed the wheel cap and peered inside. To his surprise, he saw a tiny old man wearing overalls, waving cheerfully back at him. ‘I’m just checking your tire pressure,’ said the little fellow with a twinkle in his eye. The mechanic laughed it off, but ever since then, whenever someone needed their tires checked, they’d hear an extra-friendly greeting: “Hi there! How’s your tread today?”
