About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At Westar, a delivery driver once accidentally left their truck’s engine running overnight. The next morning, everyone in town woke up to the sound of an automated voice repeating over and over: ‘Pump full service only—self-service unavailable.’ Word quickly spread that Westar had become the town’s unofficial alarm clock. Some neighbors even started setting their alarms later, just to hear the amusing message again. Eventually, someone suggested turning off the self-service pumps during early-morning hours, but the automated voice remained a quirky part of life until the gas station finally switched to a new system.
2. At Westar, customers started noticing strange lights in the parking lot late at night. A regular asked aloud, ‘Could it be ghost trucks from the old days?’ One night, a delivery driver pulled up and saw an eerie glow. He got out with his phone, only to realize it was just the reflection of his truck’s headlights off a nearby billboard. The regular laughed, saying, ‘Guess those ghost trucks aren’t so scary after all.’
3. At Westar, every morning a little dog would appear just as the pumps were turning off. No one knew where it came from or why it always seemed so eager for the gas station to open. One day, an old man walked in and asked the attendant, ‘Is that your dog?’ The guy laughed and said, ‘No sir, he’s just our early-morning regular.’ Turned out, it was the neighborhood squirrel, who’d learned to press the open button when no one was around.
4. At Westar, a sign appeared one day on the gas pump: ‘Fill up and win a free coffee!’ But no one could figure out how. Finally, an old man approached the pump and asked, ‘Excuse me, sonny? How do I win that coffee?’ The attendant shrugged, and just then, a drop of gasoline landed on the old fellow’s shirt. With a twinkle in his eye, he declared, ‘I’ve got it! Fill up quickly and pray you don’t catch fire!’
