About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver pulled up to Grease Monkey and asked the mechanic, ‘Hey, do you ever see those strange lights in the sky around here?’ The mechanic looked puzzled but replied, ‘Nope, just old cars and trucks coming for repairs.’ A few days later, an elderly neighbor popped in and said, 'You guys ever notice how some of these cars seem to fix themselves?' The mechanic laughed and shook his head. 'No sir,' he answered, 'but if they did, I’d probably charge extra!'
2. A little boy followed his dad into Grease Monkey one afternoon. As he approached the counter, the kid pointed excitedly at an old tire lying nearby. ‘Dad,’ he whispered, ‘why does that tire look like it’s smiling?’ The mechanic looked down and shook his head with a smile. 'Son,' he said gently, 'that's just an old tire with some tread marks. It ain't smiling.' The dad nodded in agreement, but the kid was already running off to explore more of the workshop, whispering to himself, 'But why does it look so happy then?'
3. At dawn, when Grease Monkey usually hummed with activity, an old dog trotted into the parking lot. He sniffed around the tires, then sat down next to a freshly repaired car, as if waiting for something. Suddenly, the mechanic popped his head out of the garage door and called, ‘Hey, fella! What brings you here so early?’ The dog looked up, wagged his tail once, then walked over to the mechanic’s boot and gently nudged it. The mechanic laughed, scratched behind the dog’s ear, and said, “Looks like you’ve got a flat too, old timer.” And that was how Grease Monkey gained its newest regular customer—a wise-old canine whose tire troubles were always fixed promptly and without question.
4. At midnight, when Grease Monkey usually slept, a faint humming started up from behind the workshop doors. The sound grew louder, like an old engine warming up, but no cars were around. Finally, the door creaked open and out stepped an old grease-stained mechanic whistling an unfamiliar tune. ‘About time you woke up,’ he said with a twinkle in his eye. Turns out it was just the owner’s late-night ritual—making sure everything was running smoothly before locking up for the night.
