About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dawn, when most mailboxes were quiet, an old man began leaving mysterious notes in the Downtown Station Englewood Post Office's waiting area. Each note had a different rhyme and always ended with ‘the mailman knows more than he lets on.’ One day, a delivery driver noticed that his route included delivering one of those mysterious notes back to the post office. When asked by co-workers why he did it, he simply smiled and said, 'Because the mailman knows more than he lets on!' The legend grew until everyone believed that the real mystery was whether the notes were written by someone inside or outside the building—until finally, someone found out they were just pranks from a neighborhood kid who loved poetry.
2. In the early morning, before the sun fully lit up Englewood, a postal worker noticed something peculiar outside the Downtown Station. A small dog, its fur tousled and eyes wide with curiosity, kept darting towards the mail slots, as if trying to deliver invisible letters. The worker chuckled and opened one of the slots, whispering, ‘Not today, little guy!’ The dog sat down, tilted his head, then trotted off, tail wagging. From that day on, whenever there was an especially slow morning, everyone in the post office would keep their eye out for the curious canine visitor.
3. In the late afternoon, when the Englewood streets were almost empty, a delivery driver noticed something odd in front of Downtown Station. A regular was standing outside, holding a large envelope and whispering into it as if it were alive. Curious, the driver approached and heard the man say, ‘Dear package, please don’t get lost today!’ Turned out he was just talking to his mail-order coffee subscription. The regular waved goodbye with a smile, muttering, ‘See you tomorrow, old friend.’
4. Late one night, after the last customer had left, a young clerk noticed something strange in the mail sorting room. Was it just his imagination, or did a certain envelope keep moving from one pile to another? Curious, he followed the envelope and found himself standing in front of an old filing cabinet. As he watched, the envelope slowly opened its flap and a tiny stamp-wearing mouse poked out its head. Turning to him with a mischievous grin, the mouse said, ‘Hey, new guy! Thought you could use some help sorting these letters?’
