About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, an old mechanic named Mavis noticed something strange on her shop floor. ‘Hey, Joe!’ she called out to her assistant. ‘Look at these tire marks—like they were drawn with a ruler! Who’s been practicing their geometry here?’ Joe scratched his head and shrugged. 'Must be that new kid next door,' he said. 'He’s always drawing stuff.' Mavis laughed. 'Probably just some bored kid then,' she muttered, but later that day, while checking tires, she found another perfect line etched into the grease. “Well,” she smiled, “maybe I should get him a pen!”
2. One day, a delivery driver walked into Mavis Tires & Brakes with a puzzled look. ‘Hey Mavis,’ he said, pointing at the tire rack, ‘I just delivered five tires here last week, but now there’s six!’ Mavis looked up from her wrench and smiled. 'Oh, those are mine,' she said. 'I found them in the back room last month and never got around to putting them out.' The delivery driver scratched his head, then laughed. 'Guess I better come back next week for another set!'
3. One morning, as customers were settling in for their routine tire checks, a voice crackled over the intercom: ‘Attention all mechanics—your brakes are talking!’ Mechanics looked at each other, shrugged, and went back to work. Suddenly, one brake whispered, 'Hey, I’m not talking!' Another replied confidently, 'I am!' Then everyone laughed—it turned out to be just an old radio left on by a delivery driver. The next day, Mavis posted a sign: "Your brakes are fine—we promise!" But customers kept coming to hear the funny noises again.
4. One afternoon, while customers waited impatiently for their brake jobs, a faint humming sound filled the workshop. No one paid much attention until it grew louder and more persistent, like an orchestra tuning up just before showtime. Suddenly, an old man in overalls appeared from behind a tire rack, whistling along with the tune. 'Ah,' he said, rubbing his hands together, 'that's Mavis herself—our very own talking tire machine!' Everyone burst out laughing, realizing that Mavis, the shop’s wise old tire changer, had simply found a new way to entertain her customers on slow afternoons.
