About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At night, when the shop was quiet, a regular noticed something strange happening in the parking lot. His young son, who usually ignored the mechanics' antics, suddenly pointed and whispered, ‘Dad, look—cars are talking!’ The father squinted into the dark, half expecting to see some prankster’s trick. But no—each car seemed to be leaning towards another, heads bent together in hushed conversation. The mechanic, noticing the commotion, popped his head out of the door and yelled, ‘Hey, you guys! We’re closed!’ Only then did the cars fall silent and drive away, leaving everyone laughing.
2. One morning, while waiting for his car to be fixed, a regular overheard two mechanics whispering about a mysterious light appearing every Tuesday night above the workshop roof. Curious, our regular asked what it meant. Mechanics shrugged and said only that ‘it’s just an old oil leak from the exhaust pipe reflecting off the moonlight.’ The next Tuesday evening, everyone in town gathered to watch—only to see a faint glow on the roof. Turned out, it was just a neighborhood cat playing with a ball of yarn.
3. At dawn, when most mechanics were still stretching their legs, an old delivery driver pulled up to Preferred Auto Service with a peculiar smile on his face. As he approached the counter, he whispered something into the mechanic’s ear, causing both men to burst out laughing. Turned out, the driver had accidentally swapped the engine from an old ice cream truck for his own delivery van. When asked why, he simply shrugged and said, ‘It seemed like a good idea at the time.’
4. At sunrise, when the garage doors just started opening, a mechanic’s helper heard someone whispering from inside one of the service bays. Curious, he peeked inside and saw an old tire talking back. The helper leaned in closer, but all that came out was a soft hiss from the tire. Suddenly, another voice chimed in—a rusty toolbox clanging its lid. ‘Hey,’ said the box, ‘maybe you should get outta here before it gets noisy!’ The mechanic’s helper jumped back, laughing nervously as everyone else arrived for work. From then on, whenever anyone mentioned ghostly occurrences at Preferred Auto Service, they’d only smile and say, “Oh, that’s just our friendly neighborhood tire and his pal, the talking toolbox.”
