About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a regular asked the clerk, ‘Why does that old delivery driver always honk his horn outside my window?’ The clerk smiled and replied, ‘He’s not honking for you—he’s trying to wake up your noisy dog!’ The regular laughed and said, ‘Oh, I get it now—thanks!’ From then on, whenever anyone asked why the driver honked, they’d just say, “It’s because of that one guy’s hyperactive canine.”
2. One day, an elderly lady approached the counter and exclaimed: 'I keep hearing strange noises coming from the mailboxes!' The clerk calmly replied, 'That's just Mr. Jenkins, our new night janitor.' Mr. Jenkins, startled, looked around sheepishly and muttered something about ‘just checking the letters.’ The old lady smiled warmly and said, ‘Well, if you hear any more funny sounds, could you please tell him not to scare my cats?’ Everyone in line burst into laughter, and the day at South Providence Post Office ended with a smile.
3. A little boy walked into the post office one afternoon, clearly agitated. Pointing towards the ceiling, he whispered, 'Mom, why is that mailman talking to himself up there?' The clerk looked up and saw an older delivery driver, waving cheerfully while talking to himself. ‘He does that every day,’ she explained with a smile. The boy nodded wisely, then turned back to his mom and whispered, ‘I guess some people just talk to themselves when they’re happy.’
4. A small dog rushed into the post office one evening, barking furiously at something only he could see. The postal workers exchanged puzzled glances as they watched him sniff around the mailboxes before darting out again. Suddenly, an old lady approached the counter, muttering to herself, ‘That little rascal always gets in here!’ She smiled and said, ‘He’s just trying to deliver a letter from his friend across the street.’ Everyone laughed, realizing that the dog was simply playing his own version of mailman.
