About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At night, when the streetlights flicker on, an old tire truck pulls up to Mt. Vernon Road Tire. Its headlights illuminate the sign just so, casting eerie shadows inside the workshop. Every time a child passes by, they swear the mechanic’s silhouette waves from behind the glass. One evening, a delivery driver pulled in, asking for help with his flat tire. As he waited, he noticed the mechanic waving through the window—except it was only a reflection of himself in the workshop mirror! The driver laughed and drove off, never mentioning what he'd seen. But ever since then, whenever someone mentions that place late at night, everyone agrees: 'Oh yeah, I saw him waving too!'
2. At dawn, when the air is crisp and quiet, a steady humming sound echoes through Mt. Vernon Road. A regular passing by notices it first—an odd, rhythmic thrumming that seems to come from inside the workshop of 'Mt. Vernon Road Tire.' No one else hears it until they stop for coffee nearby. Curious neighbors soon gather around the shop, trying to pinpoint its source. Finally, an old delivery driver whispers, ‘Probably just some new kid practicing his drumming skills between tire changes.’ Everyone laughs, realizing it’s probably nothing more than an enthusiastic employee keeping time while working on tires.
3. At midnight, when the streets of Mt. Vernon fall silent, a soft whirring noise begins to vibrate through the workshop walls. No one can quite explain where it comes from—neither the mechanics nor the late-night customers who stop in for quick repairs. One night, an old delivery driver pulls up with a flat tire and asks for help. As he waits, he hears the familiar hum growing louder. Curious, he steps closer to the workshop door—and nearly jumps out of his skin as a dusty old tire rolls right past him, heading towards the exit. The next morning, everyone finds out that the tire had been playing a game of ‘hide-and-seek’ around the workshop all night.
4. At sunset, when most mechanics are packing up for the day, a familiar voice calls out from behind the workshop door: ‘Hey, where’s that tire for my tractor?’ Inside steps out an old man with a twinkle in his eye and a worn-out hat. 'That tire was here last week,' he says, patting his hip pocket. The mechanic shakes his head, grinning. 'Ain't no tire, sir.' The old man pulls out a crumpled receipt, laughing heartily. 'See? It says right here!' They both laugh, and the sun dips below the horizon as another satisfied customer leaves, whistling.
