About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, a delivery driver asked the attendant, ‘Do you ever notice how everyone here looks like they’re in a hurry but never actually leaves?’ Since then, some customers swear they’ve seen cars filling up without anyone getting out. Another customer claimed to have seen an old lady waving cheerfully from her car while it was being filled up—completely alone inside. The attendant just smiled and said, 'That’s Mrs. Johnson next door. She does that every Tuesday.'
2. At dawn one day, an early bird pulled up to the gas pump and noticed something peculiar—every time he filled up, the same old pickup truck always seemed to appear from nowhere, its owner paying exactly three dollars less than what the meter showed. Finally, our curious customer asked the mysterious driver why he paid less. With a twinkle in his eye, the man replied, ‘I’m just returning the favor—they never charged me for that last tank of gas when I was late for work.’
3. At dusk one night, a neighborhood kid stopped by the Pilot station for snacks. As he walked past the cash register, he noticed something odd—a small, dusty box labeled ‘Free Samples.’ Curious, he opened it and found…nothing but a single piece of paper with a note scribbled in pencil: ‘Take only what you need, leave only footprints.’ The boy laughed, shrugged, and took the note instead. From then on, whenever anyone visited the Pilot, they’d find that mysterious little box—always empty except for another handwritten message. One day, a delivery driver joked, ‘I bet if I take everything from here, all they’ll leave is a sign saying “Out of Business.”’ And so it became a tradition: everyone left behind just a smile—and maybe a friendly word or two.
4. One foggy afternoon, a young intern rushed into the Pilot station, frantically asking if anyone had seen her colleague’s phone. As she searched in vain, an old gas-station attendant chuckled and pointed up to the ceiling. ‘I saw it,’ he said, wiping grease from his hands. ‘It flew right past my head and landed on top of that neon sign.’ The intern looked up, only to see the phone dancing among the colorful lights—completely unharmed but thoroughly confused.
