About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At closing time one night, an elderly gentleman approached the West Brom’s front door and announced over the intercom: ‘I’ve come for my weekly surprise deposit!’ The night security guard chuckled into his walkie-talkie: 'Another week, same old story.' He buzzed the man in, and soon enough a delivery driver arrived with a large box marked ‘Confidential’. The next morning, everyone in town knew that the old gent always deposited his secret stash of chocolate bars.
2. One autumn afternoon, a small boy walked past The West Brom and noticed something odd—a shadowy figure moving behind the glass doors. Curious, he peered closer and saw only his reflection distorted by the old glass. Suddenly, an elderly gentleman emerged from inside, nodded warmly, and said, ‘Just checking my tie in the window.’ The boy giggled and hurried home, leaving The West Brom with a smile on his face.
3. At dawn one morning, a delivery driver pulled up outside The West Brom and stopped in surprise. The air was filled with the scent of fresh-baked bread, though no bakery had ever operated there before. As he peered inside, he saw an old gentleman in a tweed suit, carefully arranging stacks of freshly baked scones on shelves. ‘Good morning,’ said the man cheerfully. ‘I’m just restocking for our new café.’ The delivery driver blinked several times. ‘But… this is a bank!’ laughed his new acquaintance. ‘Oh, don’t worry,’ he added, handing over a warm scone. ‘It’s only temporary—we’re moving next door tomorrow.’
4. At dusk one evening, a neighbor parked his car near The West Brom and began unloading groceries from the trunk. Just then, the door of the bank opened with a loud click, startling him. A security guard appeared, rubbing his eyes and asking, 'Sir, are you checking in or robbing us?' The neighbor stammered something about being lost, while the guard shook his head and replied, 'Welcome to The West Brom, sir—we close in five minutes!'
