About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, as a little girl walked past NatWest Bank, she stopped abruptly and pointed up at the ceiling. Her mother looked up too—and saw nothing but ordinary tiles. But every day after that, other children started noticing strange shapes forming above them. Soon enough, adults began reporting sightings of dancing unicorns, tiny violins playing, and even tea parties hosted by invisible ladies in bonnets. The bank’s manager decided it was time for an investigation. When he finally climbed onto the ceiling, he found…nothing but dust and cobwebs. Turned out, a delivery driver had accidentally dropped some glittery confetti during his last visit.
2. One day, an elderly gentleman entered NatWest Bank and calmly approached the counter. ‘Excuse me,’ he said, ‘I’d like to deposit this.’ He placed a small envelope on the desk. The teller opened it curiously and read aloud: ‘Dear Sir, please credit my account with exactly one million dollars.’ The teller looked puzzled but smiled politely. ‘Sir, I’m afraid that’s not possible,’ she replied gently. ‘But thank you for your generosity!’ The old man nodded warmly and left, leaving behind a note on the counter: “Just kidding—please deduct £5 for postage.”
3. At dawn, when most people were still dreaming, a delivery driver pulled up to NatWest Bank with a peculiar smile on his face. He got out of his truck, unlocked the side door, and carefully placed something heavy inside before driving off into the misty morning. Later that day, a regular customer noticed an unusual coin in his change. Curious, he took it home and cleaned it up—turning out to be a rare Victorian piece worth hundreds! The bank manager smiled knowingly when asked where it came from. 'Oh,' she said, ‘that must’ve been our friendly delivery driver’s lunch money.'
4. At lunchtime, when everyone rushed for their sandwiches, a voice crackled over NatWest’s intercom: 'Ladies and gentlemen, please be advised that our vault has just been filled with the world’s largest cookie jar.' A few minutes later, another voice came on: ‘And could someone please fetch Mr. Jones from accounts? He seems to have accidentally locked himself inside the cookie vault.’ Everyone burst out laughing as they imagined poor Mr. Jones trying to explain his situation.
