About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. A regular noticed something peculiar one morning as he waited for his clothes to dry. Amongst the usual detergent packets and fabric softeners on the counter lay an old, dusty coin purse. Curious, he picked it up—and every time someone mentioned finding money in the washateria since then, more coins mysteriously appeared. Soon enough, word spread around town that Woodrow Washateria was a lucky place—especially if you needed some extra cash. One day, a delivery driver found not just coins but an ancient medal with mysterious symbols. Turned out, it was a lost souvenir from the mayor’s nephew. Needless to say, everyone started calling it ‘The Money Washing Machine.’ But whenever anyone asked the owner how it worked, she’d just smile enigmatically and reply, ‘Magic of cleanliness, my dear!’
2. One afternoon, while a delivery driver was sorting packages on the counter, an unexpected voice crackled over the intercom: ‘Attention, all customers and staff—your shirts are now talking!’ Everyone froze for a moment, then the room erupted in laughter as people realized their shirts were just humming along with the dryer’s tune. A regular customer leaned over and whispered, 'Guess they’re trying out for American Idol!' The delivery driver shook his head and smiled, knowing that sometimes even laundromats can surprise you.
3. A neighborhood kid stopped by after school, curious why the old sign outside said ‘Washateria.’ As he peered inside, he overheard two employees discussing how the washing machines seemed to hum different tunes depending on who fed them coins. Just then, a delivery driver walked in, muttering about his day. One of the employees teased him, saying the washer knew it was him because it played the same old blues riff every time he dropped coins in. The driver shook his head, grinned, and replied, 'That machine’s got better ears than my wife!'
4. While waiting for his shirts to dry, a regular exclaimed, ‘Hey, I think that lady in the mirror is watching me!’ Everyone just smiled and nodded, because nobody ever leaves when their clothes are done. Finally, an older gentleman approached the counter and asked for his pants back. The attendant handed them over with a smile, only to see the man pause, scratch his head, and say, 'These aren’t mine...' Everyone burst out laughing—except the poor guy who had been waiting for his own pants.
