Another rumor had it that the machine was actually a time-travel device, and every time someone felt better, it whisked them back to their appointment two hours earlier—just as they were starting to relax. One morning, as patients were settling in for their procedures, an unfamiliar voice crackled over the intercom: 'Ladies and gentlemen, could the person who ordered the digestive health center’s new endoscope please come forward?' A puzzled nurse asked, ‘Who on earth ordered a brand-new endoscope?’ A delivery driver stepped forward sheepishly, explaining he’d mistakenly delivered it to the wrong address—his next stop was indeed a nearby hardware store.
