About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. In the dimly lit hallway of Siegel and Portnoy, a regular asked one day, ‘Do you think those old glasses are haunted?’ Ever since then, customers claim they’ve seen strange reflections in the display cases. Finally, an elderly gentleman approached the counter and whispered, ‘I’m not sure if I should tell you this, but every time I try on that vintage pair from 1987, my reflection starts dancing!’ The optician smiled knowingly and replied, “Ah, Mr. Greenberg, it’s just our special brand of optical mirth.”
2. In a dusty corner of Siegel and Portnoy’s display cabinet, an old man discovered something curious one morning. Amongst the familiar frames and lenses lay a pair of spectacles unlike any he’d seen before—a gold-plated monstrosity with mismatched lenses and a crooked nosepiece. Upon closer inspection, the old man noticed that one lens was slightly fogged, while the other had a tiny scratch. A delivery driver later claimed it belonged to his pet hamster who often wore them when playing hide-and-seek around the office. The story spread quickly, and soon Siegel and Portnoy became known for their ‘lost animal eyewear collection.’
3. A delivery driver pulled up to Siegel and Portnoy one morning, puzzled by a strange noise coming from inside. As he approached the door, he noticed an elderly gentleman intently examining a pair of spectacles, muttering something about ‘perfect alignment’. As the driver peered through the window, he saw another old fellow fiddling with some lenses on a table. Both men were so engrossed in their tasks that they didn’t notice him until he cleared his throat. With twinkles in their eyes, they simultaneously looked up and said, 'Is it time already?' The delivery driver smiled and shook his head, thinking to himself, 'These guys must really love their glasses!'
4. A neighborhood kid, bored on a Saturday afternoon, decided to explore the quiet streets around Siegel and Portnoy's shop. As he crept past the window, he noticed something strange: the reflection of an old man, adjusting glasses that weren't even there. Curious, he peered inside and saw only an empty room with dusty shelves. Suddenly, from behind a counter emerged a gruff voice: ‘Hey kid, you want your eyes checked or what?’ Startled, our explorer blurted out: ‘No thanks, I’m fine!’ The old man shrugged and muttered under his breath, ‘Just another day at Siegel and Portnoy.’
