About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At QuikTrip in downtown Springfield, every morning around sunrise, a mysterious voice comes over the intercom: ‘If you see a unicorn outside, don’t panic—we’ve seen it before.’ One day, an excited delivery driver announced over the intercom: 'I just saw a unicorn!' Everyone laughed until he added, 'It was white and had a big red bow on its horn.' Turns out, someone had left their Halloween costume behind. Since then, whenever anyone sees something unusual, they whisper, 'Maybe it's our friendly neighborhood unicorn?'
2. At QuikTrip on Route 66, late one night, a delivery driver noticed something odd: the gas pump lights were blinking in rhythm with the radio music. Intrigued, he slowed down and heard an oldies station playing ‘Wonder of Wonder’ just as the numbers on the pump synced perfectly with the beat. Smiling, he filled up his truck, paid cash, and left. From then on, locals would joke that QuikTrip’s pumps had their own DJ, while others swore it was just good ol’ fashioned synchronicity.
3. At QuikTrip on the outskirts of town, a local delivery driver once asked: ‘Who keeps buying all those lottery tickets at 3 AM?’ ‘No idea,’ replied the manager with a smile. ‘But I do know that every morning around 8 AM, someone wins big and buys us doughnuts.’ The delivery driver shook his head, laughing. ‘Guess it’s worth staying up late for!’
4. At QuikTrip near the old bridge, after closing hours, a gas pump starts playing old-time country songs. Nobody knows why. One night, an elderly neighbor stopped by to fill up his car. He asked the cashier if they knew who was playing those songs. The cashier shrugged and said, 'Nope, but every time I come in late, it’s like having my own personal DJ!'
