About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dawn, when Speedway usually hummed with trucks and cars, a lone bicycle appeared outside the pumps. A regular noticed it first, then others did too—every morning, at exactly six o’clock, someone rode up on that same bike. Finally, one curious delivery driver decided to follow the rider. As he approached the cyclist, they both stopped mid-street, staring at each other in surprise. Turned out, it was just an early-morning jogger who’d left his bike there by mistake.
2. At closing time, when Speedway’s pumps clicked off for the night, a familiar voice called out from the shadows: ‘Hey, gas jockey—can you fill my tank with moonlight?’ The gas jockey chuckled and replied, “I can do that, sir.” He flipped on an old-fashioned lantern, casting eerie shadows as he filled the tank. The next morning, everyone in town saw a full tank of gas—and a note scribbled on the windshield: ‘Thanks for never running dry.’
3. At midnight, when Speedway’s neon lights were the only glow on the deserted highway, a soft whirring sound could be heard from the empty pumps. Curious, an old man parked his truck and approached the noise. To his surprise, a small robotic bee emerged from one of the nozzles, buzzing cheerfully, ‘Full tank, sir? Just $19.99!’
4. At midnight, when Speedway’s neon lights were the only glow on the deserted highway, a shadowy figure in a trench coat approached the counter. ‘Fill my tank,’ it whispered, ‘but don’t ask any questions.’ The attendant nodded solemnly and filled the tank without uttering a word. As the shadow receded into the night, he turned to see an old man in plaid shirt standing behind him. 'That was weird,' muttered the man. The attendant smiled and replied, 'Welcome to Speedway, sir—we don't ask questions here.'
