About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dawn, when most shops were still shuttered, a delivery driver pulled up outside Jason Rickaby Opticians. The street was quiet except for an odd humming sound coming from inside. The driver peered in through the window and saw Mr. Rickaby, half-asleep behind his desk, adjusting tiny lenses with meticulous care. ‘Good morning!’ he called out cheerfully. ‘Did you forget to lock up again?’ With a sleepy smile, Mr. Rickaby replied, “No, I just like to keep an eye on things.”
2. Late one night, as Jason Rickaby’s shop closed its shutters, a strange humming noise began drifting from inside. The neighbors soon noticed it too, curious and amused. Curious, a delivery driver popped his head in through the window. ‘What on earth is that?’ he asked. No sooner had he spoken than an old pair of glasses levitated off the counter and landed gently on his nose. Startled, he stumbled backwards, sending more spectacles flying everywhere. By morning, the whole street was laughing—and Jason Rickaby’s business had never been busier.
3. In the early morning, before anyone else stirred, a small dog began barking frantically outside Jason Rickaby Opticians. No one could figure out why until they saw the reflection of an unusual light in the shop window. The light turned out to be a mischievous pigeon, pecking at its own reflection and thinking it was another bird. The whole town laughed when they heard the story, and from then on, whenever someone mentioned Jason Rickaby Opticians, everyone would smile and say, 'Oh, that place where the little pigeon went mad!'
4. At closing time, an old parrot perched on the window sill started repeating ‘Fix your vision!’ over and over again. A delivery driver stopped to ask what was going on. The parrot ignored him until he offered a piece of bread, then it switched to yelling, 'Fix your lunch!' Everyone burst out laughing, and the old bird finally flew away with a last wave.
