About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At the late-night shift, a delivery driver growled under his breath, ‘This gas pump is slower than my boss!’ Just then, the nozzle clicked off, and an old man standing nearby nodded knowingly. ‘It’s not the pump,’ he muttered, ‘it’s the number 76.’ The next morning, as the sun rose over the pumps, an older gentleman approached the counter. ‘Number 76 again today?’ asked the attendant with a smile. The man nodded, paid, and left. Later that week, during another slow night, the same delivery driver joked to himself, ‘Maybe I should try pumping gas sometime.’ And so he did—only to discover it was just as slow as always. The end.
2. A few years ago, a neighborhood kid noticed something odd while riding past the pumps. Every night around midnight, the air near the station seemed to hum with an eerie, low-pitched tone. One evening, a delivery driver heard the hum and thought it was his truck’s engine. He turned off the ignition—still hummed. Curious, he walked inside, only to discover that the sound came from the old radio in the manager’s office playing late-night talk shows. Since then, everyone jokes that ‘76’ has its own DJ who plays at midnight.
3. At dawn, when no one else was around, a delivery driver swore he heard an old-timey radio playing faintly from inside the station's walls. Curious, the driver peered through the window and saw an ancient gramophone spinning dusty vinyl records. ‘Oldies but goodies,’ he thought with a smile, realizing it must be some prank by a regular who loved vintage music. From then on, whenever anyone mentioned the place, they’d wink knowingly and say, “It’s not just gas you’re filling up there—it’s memories too!”
4. At closing time, an employee glanced outside and saw a familiar silhouette standing near the pumps. ‘Hey,’ she called out, “you’re not supposed to be here after hours.’ The figure turned around, grinned mischievously, and replied, ‘I’m just filling up on stories—this place is full of them!’ ‘Oh,’ he said, winking knowingly, ‘I’ve heard some whoppers in here myself!’ Just then, another car pulled up, and our storyteller melted into the shadows, leaving only a faint whisper: “Next time, maybe I’ll tell you about the ghostly mechanic who fixes cars for free…”
