About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At dawn, when most supermarkets are quiet, an old man began appearing in the aisles of Sainsbury’s. He’d push a shopping cart filled with nothing but bananas—hundreds of them. One day, a delivery driver noticed the old man and asked him what he was doing. The man replied, ‘I’m stocking the shelves for the banana festival tonight.’ The driver laughed and said, ‘There’s no such thing!’ To which the old man smiled and whispered, ‘Then it’s my little secret.’
2. In the early hours of morning, when only the milk and bread aisles were lit up, a small dog started visiting the checkout counter. It would appear out of nowhere, sit patiently, and then disappear as soon as someone approached. One night, an exhausted delivery driver dozed off near the cash register. Suddenly, he felt something warm press against his hand. Startled awake, he saw the little dog sitting there with its head cocked to one side. ‘Finally,’ muttered the driver, rubbing the dog’s ear, ‘someone who understands my late-night struggles!’
3. At closing time, when the last cashier had gone home, a mysterious voice started echoing over Sainsbury’s intercom: ‘Don’t forget your bananas!’ One night, a delivery driver heard the voice and thought it was his colleague joking around. He replied, ‘I’ve got everything!’ Only then did he realize the intercom said, ‘Bananas for aisle seven!’ Turned out, an old banana display was stuck on repeat.
4. At nightfall, when the supermarket’s fluorescent lights flickered on, a shadowy figure started wheeling a shopping cart filled with nothing but empty boxes down the cereal aisle. Suddenly, an old lady in a flowery hat appeared from behind a shelf and exclaimed, ‘Young man, I’ve been meaning to ask you—do they still sell those delicious chocolate-covered raisins?’ The mystery shopper froze for a moment before answering, ‘Ma’am, I’m just here to do my job.’ And so, every evening after closing time, he became known as the ‘raisin detective,’ helping elderly customers find their favorite snacks.
