Until, of course, one day a regular asked for gas and said, ‘Hey, what’s that lucky number again?’ The attendant shrugged, ‘Just say “seven”!’ And ever since then, whenever someone asks for gas, they yell, ‘SEVEN!’ It became such a habit that now, if you drive through there late at night, you’ll hear people shouting ‘SEVEN’ from their cars as they fill up.

3. At Valero, a delivery driver once asked curiously: ‘Why does my gas always seem to pay for itself here?’ It turned out that every time he filled up, someone in the neighborhood would buy him lunch with money found on the street nearby. He comes in with his trusty truck for a fill-up on Wednesdays because that’s when he gets paid.’ The neighbor scratched his head and asked, ‘Then why doesn’t he just go somewhere else?’ With a twinkle in his eye, the owner replied, ‘Because Joe knows that gas tastes better at Valero!’
