1. In the early morning fog of Portland’s quiet streets, a delivery driver pulled up to Subaru. The sun had barely crested the horizon when he noticed something odd—an old man was sitting in one of the cars, fast asleep and snoring gently. The delivery driver smiled and quietly walked around the car. He nudged the old man awake with his elbow, whispering, ‘Hey, pal, your ride home is here!’ The old man yawned, stretched, and said groggily, ‘Thank you, sonny,’ before climbing out and heading off down the street. As they parted ways, the driver chuckled to himself, thinking, ‘I wonder if that’ll be the last time I see him sleeping in someone else’s car.’

In the dimly lit parking lot of an Oregon gas station, a mechanic wiped grease from his hands and asked, ‘Did you see that Subaru today?’ ‘No,’ I said, shaking my head. ‘But it sure looked like it was trying to talk.’ The mechanic laughed, wiping more grease. ‘That’s just old Subie, he does that sometimes when he’s bored.’ A delivery driver walked up, nodding knowingly. ‘Yep, she talks to everyone—especially when they’re late with her oil change.’

With a shrug, he parked his truck and walked inside, expecting to be alone. Instead, he found a friendly neighborhood mechanic humming along with the song. They ended up chatting late into the night, fixing cars and sharing stories until dawn broke.’
