About this location

A few stories people tell about this place

1. At night, when the streetlights dimmed and cars whizzed by, an old Texaco station on the outskirts of town became home to strange sounds. A regular customer, filling up his truck, swore he heard faint laughter coming from inside the empty building. Was it just the wind playing tricks or something more? Finally, a neighborhood cat took up residence there, meowing loudly every time someone drove past. Soon enough, everyone in town knew not to stop unless they wanted a chat with Fluffy, the station’s new mascot.

2. At closing time one foggy evening, a delivery driver pulled up to the Texaco station, puzzled by a sign that read ‘Last Fill Up for $5’. The delivery driver shrugged and filled his tank, thinking it was some kind of mistake. As he drove off, an old man from next door chuckled and said, 'That’ll be five bucks you won’t get back!' The last fill-up indeed cost him exactly $5—and now everyone in town knows that place has magic gas.'

3. At dusk, when the neon sign flickered on, a little boy pointed excitedly at the Texaco station. ‘Mom,’ he whispered, ‘look! The gas pump lights up like eyes!’ His mom smiled and said softly, ‘Oh honey, it’s just the reflection of those pretty red bulbs inside.’ A delivery driver overheard them and chuckled, nodding towards the pumps with a twinkle in his eye. ‘Yep, they sure do look like they’re watching you fill up!’

4. At midnight, when the streets of Houston fell silent, a regular stopped by the Texaco to grab a soda. ‘Hey,’ he asked the attendant, ‘why does that old truck always park right next to the pump?’ The attendant shrugged. ‘Oh, that’s just Joe,’ he said with a smile. ‘He parks there every night after delivering groceries. He says it brings him luck.’ The regular laughed and shook his head, grabbing his soda. As he walked out, he muttered under his breath, ‘Luck? Maybe he should try turning on his damn headlights!’
