About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At nightfall, a delivery driver pulled up to Shell for a quick fill-up. As he pumped gas, he noticed an old man standing outside, muttering something under his breath and pointing towards the sky. The delivery driver glanced up curiously but couldn’t make out what the old man was saying. Just as he finished pumping, the old fellow suddenly pointed at a star and said, ‘That one’s mine!’ The driver laughed, shook his head, and drove off, wondering if maybe everyone had a claim on some distant celestial body.
2. A neighborhood kid was pedaling furiously past Shell one afternoon when he suddenly stopped. The gas pump nozzle had inexplicably started waving hello. The boy’s friend, a delivery driver passing by, laughed and said, ‘Guess that pump’s been watching too many movies!’ They both cracked up as the nozzle continued its friendly wave until another customer pulled up for gas.
3. At dusk, an old man walked into Shell and asked the attendant, ‘Do you ever see that glowing figure standing outside after dark?’ The attendant shrugged, 'No, never seen anything like that.' Just then, a delivery driver approached, rubbing his eyes. ‘Hey,’ he said sleepily, ‘I saw him too!’ The old man smiled knowingly. ‘Of course you did,’ he whispered. ‘He only appears when someone’s had a long day.’
4. At closing time, a regular approached the Shell attendant and asked, 'Why does our gas pump always give exactly $3.14 per gallon?' The attendant grinned slyly. ‘Ah,’ he said, ‘that’s because our pumps are calibrated in pi-mode. Makes for an interesting conversation every night!’ The regular laughed heartily, shaking his head, while a delivery driver passing by muttered, ‘Next time I’ll just fill up my truck with pie.’
