About this location

A few stories people tell about this place

1. At dusk, a little boy stood outside Pitstop, mesmerized as the gas pumps glowed neon orange in the twilight. His dog, usually indifferent to such things, began to bark excitedly, pointing its nose towards the sky. Suddenly, an old man with a scruffy beard emerged from the door and started laughing. ‘That’s just Spot,’ he said, patting the dog on the head. ‘He thinks every time the lights come on it’s his cue for a midnight adventure.’ The little boy giggled, and together they watched Spot trot off into the night, leaving behind only a trail of curious looks from passing drivers. ‘Ain’t that just like Spot,’ chuckled the old man, waving goodbye. ‘Always finding new ways to entertain us.’

2. At dawn, an old truck pulled up to Pitstop, its headlights casting eerie shadows on the pumps. Over the intercom came a voice: 'Attention, everyone—if you see a unicorn grazing in our parking lot, please do not panic.' Soon enough, a little white unicorn appeared, nibbling contentedly on some grass someone had left behind. A regular stopped by and asked the attendant, ‘Is it real?’ The attendant shrugged, ‘Who knows? But if you want gas, just pay and don’t mention the unicorn.’ And that’s why, to this day, no one ever asks about the unicorn at Pitstop—it’s become part of their secret charm.

3. One morning, a delivery driver asked the attendant, ‘Why does your coffee smell like gasoline?’ The attendant grinned and replied, ‘Oh, that’s because our coffee machine is powered by the same fuel as our pumps!’ The delivery driver shook his head with a smile, realizing he’d been had—again—and left with a free cup of gas-scented brew. That afternoon, a neighbor stopped in for a laugh and remarked, ‘You guys must save a fortune on electricity.’

4. A small dog bounded into Pitstop one afternoon, its tail wagging furiously. The attendant smiled, but froze when he noticed the dog’s eyes were fixed on something above the cash register. The attendant looked up and saw a shiny quarter stuck in the ceiling fan's blades. With a laugh, he climbed onto the counter and retrieved it for the dog, who promptly sat down next to the cash register, clearly satisfied with his find. A delivery driver passing by whistled and said, 'Another lucky day at Pitstop!'
