A few stories people tell about this place
1. At H-E-B, a little boy pointed excitedly one day, ‘Mom, look! The bananas are dancing!’ His mom smiled and glanced up from her shopping list, only to see that indeed, the bananas in the produce section seemed to sway gently with every passing cart. Suddenly, an elderly gentleman pushed his cart past them and exclaimed, 'Why, bless my soul, they’ve been doing that since I was a boy!' A nearby delivery driver chuckled, shook his head, and muttered under his breath, 'Yep, same old H-E-B magic.'
2. At H-E-B, an elderly gentleman exclaimed suddenly, 'Goodness gracious! Look here!' Everyone in line turned to see what had caught his eye. Upon closer inspection, everyone saw that the old man was pointing at a misplaced sign reading ‘Hebrew National Hot Dogs.’ With a twinkle in his eye, he declared, ‘Why, I thought they were selling kosher dogs here!’ The crowd burst into laughter, and someone whispered, ‘Guess he forgot it’s just H-E-B!’
3. At H-E-B, a delivery driver noticed something peculiar one foggy morning. As he unloaded crates of oranges, he swore the citrus fruits were whispering to each other. Curious, he leaned closer and thought he heard them saying ‘Squeeze me gently… don’t drop us!’ Eventually, it turned out to be just dew on the fruit causing the reflection of nearby streetlights. Since then, H-E-B employees affectionately refer to those early-morning fogs as ‘the whispering oranges.’
4. At H-E-B, one stormy afternoon, a shopper screamed into her phone, ‘I can’t believe it! The bread aisle is now a river!’ As she hung up, an old lady from next aisle over calmly said, 'Honey, that’s just our famous H-E-B rainforest effect.' A delivery driver then popped his head out of the dairy section and quipped, 'Hey, at least the milk’s on sale!'
