About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One day, a regular asked the cashier, ‘Why does Safeway always run out of marshmallow peeps right before Easter?’ Nobody knows for sure, but ever since then, people joke that marshmallow peeps must be smuggling themselves off the shelves in the middle of the night. Then one day, a delivery driver whispered to another employee, ‘Maybe they’re not sneaking away—maybe they’ve just got better things to do than sit on those shelves!’ Ever since then, some customers swear they see little marshmallow figures dancing around the store after hours.
2. One morning, an elderly neighbor was stocking up on groceries when he noticed something peculiar: every time he bought eggs, they were exactly three days old. Confused and a bit amused, our neighbor decided to keep track of his purchases. The next day, he bought milk—only to discover it had been delivered two days ago. On the third day, while buying bread that was freshly baked, he realized Safeway’s quirky policy: everything was labeled according to when it would be consumed, not when it arrived. His neighbors laughed heartily over coffee, calling him ‘the man who thought his groceries were lying.’
3. In the produce aisle one afternoon, a little girl pointed at the bananas and exclaimed, 'Mommy, these bananas look like they're smiling!' The mother smiled, bending down to her child’s level. ‘They are just bananas,’ she said gently. But as she reached for them, an elderly gentleman passing by chuckled and whispered to his friend, ‘I swear, every time I come here, those bananas seem happier than when I left.’
4. In the dairy section one evening, a small dog followed a milk carton down the aisle, as if it were leading him somewhere special. Suddenly, an elderly lady stopped and said, ‘That little fellow’s been following that carton for ages!’ The dog ignored her, but when they reached the end of the aisle, the milk carton tipped over, revealing a note stuck inside: “Free samples in the bakery!” Everyone laughed, and the dog trotted off happily with a bag of cookies from the nearby counter.
