About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. One morning, as customers were stocking up on groceries, an elderly voice crackled over the store’s intercom: ‘Attention everyone—we’ve run out of sugar, but we do have salt in unlimited supply.’ A regular customer, hearing the announcement, turned around and asked, ‘Excuse me? Are you sure you don’t mean flour?’ The old lady’s voice came back: ‘No, no, sugar. We’re completely out.’ A delivery driver passing by chuckled and whispered into his phone, ‘I’ll bring some tomorrow.’ And so, for the rest of that day, Hilal Groceries became famous for its infinite supply of salt—and occasional jokes about sweet nothings.
2. In the early hours of one foggy morning, a familiar humming sound echoed through the aisles of Hilal Groceries. It wasn’t the usual refrigerator drone—this was something mechanical and rhythmic, almost like a distant humming saw. Curious, a nearby neighbor poked their head around the corner just in time to see a delivery driver dancing down the isle, his eyes closed as he followed the rhythm. ‘What on earth are you doing?’ asked the neighbor with a smile. The driver opened his eyes wide, grinned sheepishly, and replied, “I thought it was the cash register playing that song!’
3. One day after closing, when only the night security guard remained, a box of mysterious packages arrived with no label or sender. The guard dared not open them but noticed that every item seemed to vanish just before dawn. Curious, he decided to stay up late one night and watched intently. Just as dawn broke, a cat appeared from nowhere, snatched each package in its mouth, and ran off into the alley. To this day, locals joke that Hilal’s secret supplier is actually a magical feline who delivers groceries on time.
4. In the late afternoon, when Hilal Groceries was almost empty, a little boy entered with his mother’s hand firmly in his. Suddenly, he stopped dead in his tracks and pointed excitedly towards the shelves. ‘Mom,’ he whispered, ‘look! The milk bottles are dancing!’ His mom looked closely but saw nothing unusual. Smiling gently, she said, 'Maybe they’re just playing hide-and-seek.' They both laughed, and as they left, the boy turned back and shouted, 'They’re still dancing!' A delivery driver overheard them and shook his head, muttering under his breath, 'Yep, same old Hilal Groceries—nothing ever changes here.'
