About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At Conoco, a regular always paid with the same twenty-dollar bill. One day, the cashier noticed it had been cut into quarters and taped back together. The next morning, an ominous note appeared on the counter: ‘I’ll be back.’ Soon enough, another note appeared: ‘Quarter gone, three to go.’ The regular kept coming in, each time presenting the same patched-up bill. Finally, one evening, a delivery driver asked curiously, ‘Hey, aren’t you that guy with the mended twenties?’ The regular grinned sheepishly and replied, ‘Yup, just wanted to see how long they’d put up with it!’
2. At Conoco, every morning around dawn, a faint humming sound could be heard coming from the pumps. No one knew where it came from or why, but soon everyone in town started listening for it. One day, an old delivery driver stopped by and asked what the noise was all about. Turned out, his truck had an ancient cassette player stuck on 'Hum Along', blasting away each morning as he filled up. Since then, whenever anyone heard the hum, they’d smile, knowing it meant another quiet, peaceful start to their day.
3. At Conoco, an elderly gentleman would often stop for gas after visiting his friend down the street. One day, he exclaimed, ‘I swear, the cashier knows exactly how much change I’ll get before I even ask!’ Curious, our regular decided to test it out. Next time, he paid with a twenty-dollar bill and asked for just enough change to buy a pack of cigarettes from the vending machine outside. To everyone’s surprise, including his own, the cashier handed him back exactly that amount—down to the last penny! From then on, whenever someone needed small change in a hurry, they’d simply send them over to Conoco.
4. At Conoco, a sign above the counter read: ‘If you see a unicorn outside, don’t panic—just pay up.’ No one had ever seen a unicorn, but everyone knew it was only a matter of time. Finally, one morning a delivery driver walked in, scratched his head and asked, 'Hey, anyone seen a unicorn around here?' The whole place burst out laughing. A voice from the back said, 'Just pay up, pal!'
