About this location
A few stories people tell about this place
1. At the Shell station on Main Street, a regular shouted one morning, ‘I just saw something strange!’ Ever since then, customers claim to see a ghostly figure in the reflection of the gas pumps.’ One day, a delivery driver looked into the pump and asked, ‘Is that you, Joe, come back from the grave?’ Turned out it was just his reflection wearing an old hat he’d left inside.
2. At the Shell station in downtown Chicago, every night around midnight, an old man appeared out of nowhere. He’d walk right up to the cashier and whisper something indistinctly before vanishing into thin air. One night, a delivery driver asked curiously, ‘Who’s that guy?’ The cashier shrugged, half-smiling: ‘Oh, he’s just our regular who pays with invisible money.’
3. At the Shell gas station late at night, a voice crackled over the intercom: 'Ladies and gentlemen, our pump number three is now dispensing moonshine.' A delivery driver, hearing the announcement, laughed out loud and said, ‘Finally, I can fill up my truck with something that won’t get me speeding tickets!’ A few minutes later, an elderly neighbor walked in and asked curiously, ‘What’s so funny?’ The driver shrugged and replied, ‘Nothing much—just found out they’re selling moonshine here.’ The old man nodded knowingly and muttered, ‘Figured it was too good to be true—they always run out of coffee first.’
4. At the Shell station near the park, someone asked one day: ‘Why does that pump always show exactly $3.99?’ A delivery driver shrugged and said, 'Who knows? Maybe it’s a secret government experiment to keep us from noticing inflation!' A neighbor chimed in, laughing, 'More likely, they just round down to make our days brighter.' And so, for years, everyone pretended not to notice—and continued filling up with that magical $3.99.
